- generally, food prices are going up by about 10% in the last 12 months

(e.g. meat up 20+%, really expensive

Milk/products, up 9%

Fruits and vegetables, grains up 5% to 7%)

- why is that? – (1) more expensive to transport the food from farms to the supermarkets

(2) grains to feed cattle (cows, pigs, chickens – higher price – bad weather (drought in California, flood in BC, too hot/ cold)

(3) Labour shortage – less people want to work in the farms, or meat processing plants

- higher food prices will continue for the next little while (at least a year)

- prices in restaurants have gone up by at least 15%

- climate change has everything about the increase in food prices (avoid Styrofoam or one time use plastic containers)

Health Science (very important to have a balanced diet)

1)    Fruits and vegetables (plants) – cell wall, source of fibre. Fibre helps your waste to move out of your body. No fruits/vegetables, very difficult for waste to move out of body (constipation). Full of vitamins and minerals to keep us healthy

2)    Grains (carbohydrates – rice, bread, noodles, pasta) – give us energy

The experts are projecting that regular gas will hot $1.90/litre in Toronto within two months

- calculate how much it costs to fill up a 60 litre tank (regular gas only) in these places

Cost: $1.51 x 60 litres = $90.60 (regular gas, Kwok needs to refuel once every ten days)

$1.65 x 60 litres = $99 (supreme gas, really expensive)

- trucks use diesel fuel – dirty, black smoke, bad for the environment (diesel fuel produces more power; harder to start in cold weather)

- Alternatives: Electric cars, expensive Tesla is over $100,000; EV – short range (cannot take road trips, Tesla 350km for one full charged engine)

- other electric cars (Toyota Prius, Nissan Leaf, GM Volt, Mitsubishi), range is only 200Km

- cold weather is bad for the battery – low temperature reduces the battery charges, much shorter range (reduce by 30% to 40%)

- battery is good for about ten years, it costs $12000/battery

Grocery shopping: Protein (meat, soya bean), Milk products, Grains (bread, pasta, rice noodles), Fruits /vegetables

- interest rate did not go up today in Canada, but it will go up 4 to 5 times this year

(that is a big increase by the end of 2022)

- parents may have to pay a lot more interest for their mortgage and car loans

- Canada cell phone plans are the MOST expensive in the world

[e.g. Hong Kong, 1000mins talk, 25G for $20]

[US, T Mobile, $3/day, turn off phone, no charge]

- higher interest rate means

1) food prices will go up [check prices for beef, milk, bread, apples]

2) fuel prices (gasoline) will go up (Toronto, regular gasoline $1.47/litre, about $80 to fill up a car)

- regular gasoline, mid-grade gasoline, supreme gasoline, supreme +

Next dramatic presentation: Least favourite food

- 45seconds

I will mark on your eye contact, expression, tone and pace of the presentation. Learn to ask questions and exhale since you HATE that food

e.g. Why did my mother always force me to eat an orange every day after dinner? I simply don't see the point of eating one and going to the washroom? Is it necessary to go to poo every day? Don't you think it is better for the environment if we don't use toilet paper? And she always tells me that it is good for you? I would tell her that having an ice cream cone or a slice of cheesecake is also good for me too. . . The seeds, sour taste, the time to peel the orange is a total waste of my precious time and energy. . . and when the pulp is stuck between my teeth!!!!! I have to floss and remove them every night?

Reasons to take illegal drugs:

  1. stress, problems with family, friends, school

  2. they simply don’t want to think of the problems

  3. try to get “High” - sense of excitement

  4. when “high” is not high enough, need to try something stronger with more excitement

(e.g. kids, slower, not so steep roller coaster, teenagers: faster, steeper roller coasters) - more fun, more excitement

  1. Vape/smoking + alcohol (start with beer, wine, rum, vodka, whiskey) + pot (marijuana)

  • edible marijuana (candy, baked goods, pasta sauce)

  1. the effects of getting high with these drugs may be good for a few months to a year

  • that’s when they try the really strong drugs and get seriously addicted
