In 1763, the Treaty of Paris surrendered New France to Britain.

The British victory on the Plains of Abraham in September 1759 placed the city of Quebec under British rule

September 1760, the British guaranteed the people of New France the following: immunity from deportation or maltreatment; the right to depart for France with all their possessions; continued enjoyment of property rights; the right to carry on the fur trade on an equal basis with the British; and freedom of religion.

10 February 1763, the colony of New France became a British possession

8A History Summary

Iman: Charles de Salaberry: Canadian Hero and Military Leader

My presentation was about Charles de Salaberry and why he is one of Canada’s greatest heroes. I explained that he was a French Canadian military officer who showed courage, intelligence, and strong leadership while defending Canada during the War of 1812. I also talked about how he led a much smaller army to victory at the Battle of Chateauguay by using smart strategies and the natural landscape to trick and stop the enemy. Another important point is that his early life, education, and military experience helped him become a confident and effective leader. Overall, Charles de Salaberry is important because he protected Canada and showed that bravery, careful planning, and determination can overcome even the biggest challenges.
