Different groups/classes of living organisms
1) Producers (make food for itself)
- green plants (photosynthesis)
Water + CO2 ----------- plant food (sugar)+oxygen
chlorophyll
2) Consumers (eat/capture something to survive)
- herbivores (plant eaters, e.g. deers, rabbits, zebras)
- carnivores (meat eaters, e.g. lions, wolves, fish, T Rex)
- omnivores (plant and meat eaters, human, bears, turtles)
- scavengers (feed on dead animals, they do not hunt, e.g. coyotes, ravens, vultures, hyenas)
- detrivores (feed on decomposing materials by absorbing nutrients from them) e.g. Earthworms, beetles, mushrooms
- decomposers (eat whatever leftover by the detrivores. E.g. bacteria, bread mold, some fungi)
- all these living organisms (producer, herbivores, carnivores, omnivores, decomposers, detrivores) are needed in nature because they interact with each other to maintain a balanced ecosystem
- cannot have too many of one group of living organisms (e.g. too many deer in a forest will lead to the destruction of most green plants)
