A simple sentence shares one idea per sentence.
e.g. I ran to the school this morning.
I did not catch the bus


A compound sentence uses conjunction to combine two ideas into one sentence.

Since I did not catch the bus, I ran to school this morning.

Although I ran to school this morning, I was not late.

He finishes his homework while he is babysitting his sister.

Neither Louis nor Bobby go to the movie theater.

Adjectives: describe nouns (happy family, frustrated parents, red shirts)

Adverbs: describe the actions (-ly, quietly, suddenly, obviously)

Conjunctions: link ideas together (since, unless, although, as, yet, while)

 

Too many “I” or other personal pronouns in your writing

 

- how to avoid too many “I”?

 

1)    IT statement: It is obvious that in class learning is better than virtual classes

2)    Start with an adverb: Suddenly, my parents receive a call from the school

 

- 3 IT sentences

- 3 sentences that begin with adverbs

- try not to use “I”

- use conjunctions to combine ideas (since, unless, although, as, yet, while)

- try to start a sentence with a conjunction

(e.g. While it is better to go back to school, it is more important to stay safe during Covid)
