Coffee and tea questions

Cha Time

- how many drinks did it sell on Sunday

____ fruit drink and _____bubble tea

- how much is a fruit drink

- how much is a bubble tea

- calculate the total

Unknowns = variables

Starbucks sold 138 drinks (coffee and tea only)  on Sunday. The store took in $419.80.

If each coffee was $3.25 and each tea is $2.55, how many coffee and tea did the store sell?

There are two variables in this question (coffee C, and tea T)

3.25 x C  = how much the store took in after selling all the coffee

2.55 x T = how much the store took in after selling all the tea

3.25C + 2.55T = 419.80 (what we know, how much the store took in after selling all the coffee and tea)

C + T = 138 drinks

C = 138 – T

From above

3.25C + 2.55T = 419.80

3.25(138 – T) + 2.55T = 419.80 [this equation has only one variable, T]

3.25 x 138 – 3.25 x T + 2.55T = 419.80

448.50 -3.25T + 2.55T = 419.80

- then you put numbers on one side of equal sign, and variables on the other side

448.50 -3.25T + 2.55T = 419.80

- 3.25T + 2.55T = 419.80 – 448.50

- 0.70T = -28.70

T = (-28.70 ¸ -0.70)

T = 41 tea

All drinks = 138

C = 138 – 41 = 97 coffee
