- read page 28 about light bulbs. See imaged below if you did not take a screen shots
Science notes today
- mixtures in the real world are helpful and dangerous
- examples: light bulbs
1) Traditional light bulbs
- cheap ($0.50 each)
- hot after a few mins (waste electricity because electricity turns to heat and light)
- they don’t last very long (3 to 6 months)
2) Compact Fluoresce light bulbs (CFL bulbs)
- brighter, last longer (3 to 5 years)
- more expensive
- contain mercury (very toxic), must be brought to a recycling depot
to dump
3) LED lights
- last for up to 10 years
Very bright, use less electricity, wont heat up the bulb
- no mercury or other toxic chemicals
- expensive ($5 each) – but government rebates during Thanksgiving
