Geography: in your maps, create labels for the following countries
Label the following:
Africa: Nigeria, Egypt, South Africa, Serra Leon
Europe: United Kingdom (UK), France, Germany, Spain, Italy
Oceania: Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea
Challenges: Chad, Easter Island, Albania, Panama, Uruguay
- study what you have learned today. test next week to label these countries in a paper map
- Math: probability, p.1 and p.2 (example 1 and 2 only)
- calculate the probability in example 2, and turn that into fraction
Part 1: Probability can be expressed in words (grade 4 expectations)
Certainty (for sure to win)
Likely (great chance of winning)
Probable (a chance to win, but less than likely)
Equal chance (50% chance of winning)
Possible (less than 50% chance of winning)
Unlikely (little chance of winning)
Impossible (no chance of winning)
Student’s work: Identify an event that represents these probability phrases
Probability Phrase | Example 1 | Example 2 |
Certainty | There is toilet paper in the washroom |
|
Likely | Someone wear a black shirt |
|
Probable | It is going to be cold today (less than 5°C) |
|
Equal chance | Get a head when flipping a quarter |
|
Possible | All the regular teachers are in school |
|
Unlikely | Someone wear winter boots in Kwok’s class |
|
Impossible | Students have to go to school on Dec 25 |
|
These probabilities can be plotted along a line. Mark the above phases along the line below:
